Suggest Treatment For Nausea, Depression And Anxiety

Question: hi, recently something traumatic has happened to me and I've noticed a difference in my mood and behaviour because I'm feeling depressed and anxious. I have seen a difference in my behaviour because I went a period of two weeks with very little energy but I managed to pull myself out of it when I was feeling slightly better by exercising and eating really healthy. I have had ongoing seizure-like episodes for some time and I had one of these episodes followed by feeling sick and almost vomiting. I told my doctor I had vomited even though the vomit didnt come out and I managed to swallow it back down. I don't think I was thinking correctly when I said this. It was easier to say I had vomiting and I was nervous at the time. Now I am sad and anxious that I didn't say the truth to my doctor and I'm worried if there's something wrong with me mentally that made me say that. I am really giving myself a hard time about this. Why do you think I could have said this as under normal circumstance I have never done anything like it before.

Brief Answer:
Likely stress related problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

You had some acute stress and after that you are facing some psychological issues. This is called acute stress reaction. When such symptoms last for more than one month it is called post traumatic disorder. In conclusion this is a type of anxiety disorder after stress.

Your vomiting was also part of anxiety symptoms. What you called seizure like episode should be panic attack.

You need consultation of a psychiatrist or psychologist. For confirmation of diagnosis detail history and mental status examination are required by a professional.

Your problem can be treated by psychotherapy or/and anti anxiety medicines. In psychotherapy CBT - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy will be useful. In mild cases CBT is sufficient while for moderate or severe cases medicines should be added. In medicines short course of benzodiazepine drugs like lorazepam or clonazepam would be sufficient and for the patients who has more severe symptoms SSRI group of drugs can be added.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr Chintan Solanki.
