Suggest Treatment For Myoclonic Jerks

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: About the time I get ready to fall asleep, something like a jolt to the body wakes me up. I am suffering with some digestive problems at this time that have killed my appetite. I am seeing a gastro doc about that. Do you think the two are related or separate issues? It is very difficult to go to sleep without ativan and I really don't like the feeling I have the next day from it. What should I do? Thanks ,XXXX
find this awakening jolt comes when I exhale a breath of air. It seems to jolt me in the stomach, like a cold chill.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of myoclonic jerks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and in my opinion, they are suggestive of myoclonic jerks. These jerky movements are fairly common and occur to a certain degree in most people. These are more common while falling asleep or while waking up from sleep.

They are minor in severity in most people, however, severe jerks may occur in some people.

If the jerks are troublesome, then, medications such as clonazepam or sodium valproate tablets may help reduce their severity.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
