Suggest Treatment For Mild Scoliosis

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: Hello. In 2008, I was diagnosed with "mild scoliosis" - specifically, "levoscoliosis of the lower thoracic line." This often gives me pain, especially if I'm driving and I was wondering if there is any sort of treatment available for this. I am also concerned that, as I get older, this problem will get worse. Is there anything I should be aware of with this condition? Are there any treatments available? And is there anything I should do or avoid to either improve the condition or prevent it from worsening?

Brief Answer:
Most cases don't need treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Fortunately, few cases with scoliosis need treatment.

Treatment possibilities include spinal braces to prevent progress of scoliosis and surgery when there is rapid progression in follow up, or scoliosis grade reached 40 degrees.

Braces are not used in individuals sceletally mature, in your age I think your skeleton is mature.

Surgery can correct scoliosis curvature by about 50%.

To prevent progression in some way and reduce pain you can undergo to physical therapy, or participate in general sports.

There's need for periodic follow up with your Doctor ( once a year ) about muscles strength, numbness and reflexes of the legs and x-rays measurement of scoliosis degree.

When in severe pain, you can use NSAID drugs ( Ibuprofen eg.).

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Best regards.
