Suggest Treatment For Mild Cataract In Left Eye Post Vitrectomy

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: I had vitrectomy for ERM left eye February this year. Already had a mild cataract in that eye. Good result with VA after peel but now VA deteriorating - script increased from -2 to -3. This thought to be myopic shift due to progression of cataract and cataract surgery now recommended. Having been low myope all my life, I am reluctant to completely give up my near and intermediate vision. Simple home tests indicate I am right eye dominant. Right eye has mild cataract, script now -1.75, previously -2.25.
I would like to target -1.5 in the left (vitrectomised) eye. This would give me the option of targeting XXXXXXX monovision or else bilateral low myopia when it came to iol for right side. I would much rather end up a little near sighted than with normal distance vision if XXXXXXX monovision was not possible.
What do you think of this plan. Is there any reason not to target -1.5 in the left non dominant eye due to the history of macular peel?

Brief Answer:
Targeting for XXXXXXX monovision can be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history and the reports attached with the question.

I can understand your concerns and the advantages of seeing near vision with out spectacles which occurs in myopics.
I feel -1.5 myopia will be high and a target of around -1 will be fine for XXXXXXX monovision.

Hence I advice you to discuss the issue with your cataract surgeon before going for cataract surgery. There is no relation of this targeting for XXXXXXX microvision with history of macular peel. Hence no need to be worried about it.

Hope this information is helpful to you.
