default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I have a lump on the back of my neck, along with a smaller one just below it (one having the width of a quarter and the other as small as a pea)i have been suffering from constant ear infections and ear ringing since i was a child and now suffer from headaches and nasal congestion along with blurred vision (Can't see what i used to see). I was with my family doctor and he prescribed me medicine to rid the infection, anti biotics, and nasal spray. The infection is gone (but most likely not too long because it keeps coming back) but the lumps are not and the nasal congestion and headaches continue. In fact the second lump shown up after i started medication. Going on two weeks on my medication and the lumps won't go away. My next appointment is not for a bit and i wanted to hear another opinion that doesn't involve me waiting a long time. It is affecting my job and i want to get it solved

Brief Answer:
They look like Lymph nodes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, they look like Lymph nodes. They enlarge when there is infection of their drainage area like Scalp, around the ear etc.
They respond well with Antibiotics and anti inflammatory tablets.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Clindamycin capsule along with anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints. If there is no response, I will get an FNAC ( Fine Needle aspiration Cytology ) of the swelling or completely remove the swelling surgically and send it for histopathological examination ( Biopsy ) .Exact diagnosis will be confirmed.
Regarding ear infection, nasal congestion and headache, you should consult your ENT surgeon, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
