Suggest Treatment For Lumbar Spondylosis

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: 21 years ago I was hit by a bull on our ranch. He flipped me in the air and I landed flat on my back. I had a massive ecchymosis on my left thigh which resolved over a few weeks. Subsequently I had muscle spasms and about 2 years ago I received Physical Therapy which resolved the problem.
On August 6, 2014 I fell in the bedroom after losing my balance. Physical therapy has been ongoing since about 3 weeks ago but it has not resolved the muscle spasms that still continue in my left side. Any suggestions will be welcomed. I am an 81 y.o. retired RN. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
You may be suffering from lumbar spondylosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,XXXX

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar

After going through your query I think you may be suffering from lumbar spondylosis with compressive neuropathy. As you are 80years young, lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative disease commonly seen in your age group. Furthermore you have an old injury which adds to the chances of getting Spondylosis. Compression of spinal cord would lead to imbalance of muscles and falls. Furthermore the muscle spasms indicate a compressive neuropathy.

Many of my such patient got relief by analgesics such as diclofenac slow release tablets, Diacerine, Glucosamine and neurotropic agents such as mecobalamine. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

This condition can be further investigated by getting X-xay lumbar spine AP and Lateral view and MRI OF LUMBAR SPINE.

Sometimes if there is compression in MRI and relief is not there by medicines than decompression by operation is done and it relieve the condition.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
