Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain And Coccyx Pain

Question: For the Doctors on this site I am sure you have seen me place several posts about my low back pain and Coccyx pain. This should hopefully be my final question because I am having issues with having to be seen by several different doctors.

Short story: I am the Police Officer that keeps posting about my LB Pain and Coccyx and I went to the Pension Board the other day and this is the result of the Meeting/Hearing...

I have been seen by many different doctors and up to about a year ago the Pension Board was only allowed to see the results of the Pensioners two I.M.E.'s but now they are allowed to see anything the Officer wants to present as evidence. So far in summary this is what I have. I have 2 seperate Orthopedic Surgeons that state I have a 5% Permanent Injury (they both state I have reached Maximum Medical Improvement) and I can no longer do full duty Police Work.I have 1 Pain Management doctor (he has given me 3 injections to low back and 3 injections to Coccyx) that agrees I can't do Full Duty, my Primary Care Doctor that submitted the same as the other docs. I have a report from my EMG Test that states I showed positive for right S-1 Radiculopathy. I took a Functional Capacity Test over a year ago that showed I was unable to meet the minimum requirements of my Job duties. The report showed I could do 84% of my job and I could not do full duty Police work but i could do full time light duty. (my department doesn't have permanent light duty) the FCA report showed I put forth maximum effort and showed no signs of malingering. I took another Functional Capacity Test about two weeks ago and it came back with pretty much the exact restrictions and also said No full duty possible. It too stated I put forth full and consistent effort and no signs of malingering.

Finally I have 2 I.M.E. Doctors that the city sent me to and both those reports are pretty much the same as each other. They both agree that I have a 5% disability but continue to say that I could do full duty police work even after the doctors read my other reports from the other Orthopedic Doctors, EMG Test, both Functional Capacity Test.

So, my question is, do you have any suggestions on what I should do? Should I try and get my own official I.M.E. from a Orthopedic Surgeon that the city doesn't send me to?? To the credit of the two I.M.E. Doctors, they never read the report of my CT of my lower back and Coccyx. They only saw a MRI of my lower spine and it was a pretty bad MRI from what my doctors told me and that is why they ordered my CT and made it so they included my Coccyx because the MRI I had didn't include my Coccyx. The IMPRESSION at the bottom of my CT Report is as follows; Mild Posterior Disc Bulge at L5-S1 that indents the Ventral Theca Sac. Small right Foraminal Disc Extrusion which extends into the end Aspect of the Right L5-S1Neural Foramen. Anterior Angulation of the Coccyx. END... You might not have any suggestions but I have been dealing with this pain for a few years now and I want to make sure I do everything that I am able to do. The Pension Board Members are civilians and I don't know what else I could do to help them with their decision. I just hate how the Doctors paid for by the city say one thing but all the other doctrs say another. Any recommendations would be of great appreciation. I'm sure my injures don't seem that significant in comparrioson to most of your patients but when your a Officer and have to wear the gun belt and a bullet proof vest and have to chase someone or jump a fence these injuries become a serious hinderance. Thank you for any help with my questions...

Brief Answer:
You should be shifted to lighter job.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I am aware of your problem.
Since your job demands high efficiency, you should be shifted for lighter job due to your back problem. All investigation findings indicate disability and demand rehabilitation.

You can appeal to higher authorities. You need proper evaluation by a group of specialists like medical board.Different specialist will put their views and can decide accordingly.

As discussed earlier, MRI findings in lumbar spine are not severe. These can be managed conservatively.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
