Question: I am 93 years old, active, in excellent health, but I have loose bowels to the extent that I have to wear panty liners which sometimes overflow.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

Your symptoms can be due to bowel infection or lack of fibers in your diet.

I would suggest that you take a course of bowel specific antibiotics like metronidazole. But for the prescription you need to see your local doctor.

Also eat more of fibers in the diet like oats, whole cereals and fruits like bananas and fresh curds.

If your symptoms still dont improve then you will need a colonoscopy to rule out any malignancy as that is also a possibility at your age.
