Suggest Treatment For Left-sided Tinnitus Leading To Hearing Loss And Dizziness

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Oct 2019
Question: Hi Doctor,

My left ear had continuous beep sound and sometimes I also feel a little dizziness in my head. My hearing also reduced a little. When visited a doctor he had done these tests (PTA and some audiometry). They wrote the result as - Left ear - Minimal to Mild High frequency sensorineural hearing loss. No I am worried that I read some articles on internet about sensorineural hearing loss and it says it not curable.

Is this really permanent problem that I have to face life time?
any medications that I can use to get the relief ?
does it effect my right ear as well eventually?

Please help

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Sensorineural hearing loss

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Sensorineural hearing loss can cause symptoms of tinnitus along with vertigo and difficulty in hearing.
Hearing loss can't be cured but rest of the symptoms can be managed with medicines. The hearing loss if is severe and disturbs the normal life style than hearing aids are only option.
Single sided sensorineural hearing loss is usually due to sudden loud noise exposure or some inner ear cause.
Loss in one ear will not affect the hearing in another ear.
Please send me the audiometry report so that I can suggest you better and prescribe you accordingly.
Also tell me what medicines have you been taking so far?
Follow up with the required information.
Take care
Thanks and regards

Thank you for confirming doctor, right now I have lost like 50% of hearing capacity ,
Does it gets worse day by day? will I be losing 100% eventually? I have uploaded the audiometry report. I am right now using Mahacef XL200 twice daily 2 more days course is left.

Can you please give me medicines to get rid of this continuous beep sound and vertigo(my vertigo now is very minimal, but still even if it is 5% or 10% also I can feel the imbalance which is disturbing).

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Sensorineural hearing loss

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
As per the audiometry report, you are having mild loss in the left ear but right ear is almost normal.
The loss will not progress spontaneously but there can be age related changes.
You should take tablet cinnarizine 75 mg once daily for 2 weeks and vitamin b12 supplement 1500 micrograms once daily.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
Avoid any ear phones use or excessive XXXXXXX phone usage.
Avoid any loud noise exposure.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards
