Suggest Treatment For Laceration On Inner Thigh Post Whiplash Injury

Question: I suspect that i have a concussion. Last Monday i was feeling dizzy in the shower and i placed my back to the wall hoping i could get past it when next thing i know i am laying in the shower . I ended up with my right ear slit open on the outer crease, my shoulder and hip extremely soar and then discovered that i have a very black and blue area at the crease of my inner thigh. My head has felt like a gaping wound ever since. i can not turn my neck as if i have experienced whiplash. how long does this feeling normally go on for? i am a 54 year old woman, i weigh 165, un fortunately a week ago this past Friday i had come down with a cold, so i am not sure if that is having any impact on it. Also, if you are wondering why i have not gone to urgent care is because I had just found out that the military insurance coverage I normally have was expired on 06, September, 2015, once my husbands orders had expired, this is why i am submitting this question, otherwise i would have gone to Urgent Care.

Brief Answer:
You need to use anti inflammatory drugs, warm compresses, rest and watch

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic.

It is sad to know what you had to go through, and most unfortunate being not able to seek emergency care. Hope you are stable and coping with your condition well and being taken care of by some memeber of family.

As far as the laceration is concerned, please make sure it is closed or on way to heal, else it will need to be stiched. Look for any signs of inflammation around it, or discharge or fever as in that case you will need to have antibiotics like augmentin and anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

For brain concussion, as you said you are well aware and concious with no proceeding fits or vertigo, it seems less likely to be a worrysome. If neck movement is still impaired, you may need to use neck collar and rest for a while while using analgesics and warm compresses.

For other blunt concussions and bruises, topical ice packs and brufen creams can be used, and these may resolve with in 2-3 weeks spontaneously.

The primary issue of getting such blow out of nowhere needs to be worked out, after your insurance issues are sorted out. As passing out without any obvious reasons needs a detailed work up by a cardiologist and neurologist.

At this moment, pain killers like codogesics, acetaminophen or ibuprofen alongwith those measures mentioned above can give you symptomatic relief. It may take 2-4 weeks to recover completely. If it is not on improving trend within a week, Xrays of affected areas becomes a must.

Hoping you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
