Suggest Treatment For Keloid

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: My mother has skin that is prone to keloids.
The keloids are large, itch, burn and sometimes cause pain. Thankfully the keloids are in places that can be hidden by clothing because that woukd add a self-esteem issue to the mix.
Are there any treatments for shrinkage and or to assist with managing the discomfort. Sometimes my mother has to cover the keloids to prevent clothing from touching. My mother is allergic to latex and has a reaction to adhesives found in tape and bandages.
What are your thoughts? Thank you for your insight in advance.

Brief Answer:
intralesional steroid injections,avoid injuries.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to health care magic.I can understand your concern and will try to answer it.

keloids are disfiguring scars. They can occur after trauma or spontaneously.

Gold standard treatment for keloid is intralesional steroid injections.Steroid injections like kenacort are injected directly in keloid. This will help in reducing size of keloids and pain.Application of liquid nitrogen before injections will allow easy penitration of injections.

This is a simple office procedure and you may need to consult your dermatologist.

Creams like hexilak gel, laser treatments are other options but they tend to work little slow.

Ask your mother to avoid injurieis as far as possible as any injury can lead to new keloid.

I hope this will help you.In case of any concern i will be happy to help you.Thanks.
