Brief Answer:
external ear infection or swimmer's ear

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having discharge and drainage from the ear. Tis is actually a very common problem. When you bath or shower water will get in the ear and change the pH of the ear and allow for fungus and bacteria to grow in the ear canal. The drainage and itching is caused by the growth of fungus and bacteria. Your prior doctor properly diagnosed and treated the infection. I recommend you continue to use the ciprodex to help stop the itching and infection.

I also recommend you keep water out of the ear especially when bathing. I recommend taking a cotton ball put a little petroleum jelly on the cotton ball and place it in your ear. DO NOT FORCE it into the canal. You may also may purchase ear plugs that will also keep the water out which is used by swimmers.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can appear to be blood

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for responding to my answer.

The discharge can sometimes appear to be bloody this is not uncommon. The dark color could be blood or it could be dark red colored wax. Either way with the use of the ear drops your discharge should clear up and no longer bother you.
