Question: Hello, I am having terrible recurrent insomnia. As of today, I have been awake for 7 days. I am desperate for help. This has been a lifelong problem. My previous record was 5 days. Right now I have no indication that this is going to end any time soon. Please help!

Insomnia in itself is a symptom, not the disease. We have try to find what is the reason for insomnia.
Depression, Anxiety, Pains in body, UTI, Cardiac Problem, Drug Abuse, and some brain tumours can cause insomnia.
It is important you get a CT Scan head, Screen through Hamilton's Anxiety and Depression Rating Scale, and see if you have any other physical problem.
If there is none of them, then there are medicines acting directly on sleep centre in brain like Ramelteon that can be tried. Sleep hygiene is a must .
You can down load detailed information regarding sleep hygiene from net.
