Suggest Treatment For Injury On Shin

Posted on Sat, 19 Apr 2014
Question: I fell almost 5 hours ago and hit my right shin just beneath my knee on the concrete steps. A knot formed and has yet to disappear or even lessen in size. And at times pain shoots down from the area. I expect there to be bruising, but was wondering how long I should expect it to remain like this?

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, Thank you for posting your query on HCM. Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that it generally takes at least 5 days for any injury to resolve plus if the area of injury is on some joint or area of constant movement it may take longer . Next I will advise you to get a tetanus toxoid shot if there is any evidence of visible blood to be on safer side . You can take naproxen 250 mg twice a day for pain and swelling after consulting your treating doctor. Take care. Dr. Shruti

I am currently 2 months pregnant and am unable to take naproxen. Is there anything else I could do?

Brief Answer: Follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Madam, If you are pregnant then I will not advise you to take anything because its a minor bruise and will heal on its own . You can however apply betadine or mupirocin ointment over the bruised area that will accelerate healing . Dr. Shruti
