Suggest Treatment For Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome And Constipation

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 50 year old male. For more than a year, I have had stomach pain-sometimes it is severe, bust most of the time it is mild. I have seen a gasteritologist, had a ct scan, colonoscopy, and it had been determined that I have IBS and I suffer from constipation. Also, my back hurts, usually from mid back to lower back. I am curious to know what could be my issue. Thank you

Brief Answer:
You need to follow the suggestions strictly.

Detailed Answer:
I warmly Welcome you!

Thanks for consulting me at virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Based on the data provided by you in query, and the already given diagnosis by your physician, I have no doubt that you have Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, IBS-C (Constipation Predominant). Reinforcing factors are:-
*your mild to moderate stomach pains.
*CT, Colonoscopy already done.
*Constipation (changed bowel habits).
*back pains you feel.

You may need a physician for the prescription of the following drugs and also keep an eye on your medication allergy history.

I usually prescribe Rifaximin (xifaxan) 200 mg 3 times a day taken per oral for 3 days. PLUS
Linaclotide (Linzess) 290 mcg PO daily on empty stomach; I usually prescribe to take at least 30 minutes before breakfast. PLUS
Methylcellulose (It's available Over The Counter with the name of Citrucel Caplets and is very effective for patients like you). Take 2 caplets 3 times a day with a glass of water.

You need to take extra amounts of water for the disease to resolve earlier. Avoid moist and humid environment, avoiding dehydration. You may take pedialyte to revitalize yourself.

Start physical activity to make the symptoms better.

Note: You may discontinue the Laxative given by your physician but first discussing with him the alternative which I have prescribed for you.
