Question: Hi
My baby girl is 11 months old and has started teething a week ago, she has already cut upper two teeth and I cansee few adjacent ones cutting too.
My concern is that she got fever 36 hours ago and til now has it, it was 100.9 and then 101.5,102.4 and today morning after we bathed her with lukewarm water it came down to 100.8 but now again it was 102.3.
We saw a doctor yesterday who said it can b viral n suggested flucold, nasivion XXXXXXX
She had runny nose once or twice that too when she cried but not now.
Is it viral or due to teething, she has become bit dull n cries sometimes or wakes up from sleep but is not totally dull. She is refusing to eat solids but taking mothers milk easily.
I m concerned about she not eating, taking meficienes and her fever.
How can she get well soon and what can b reason of her sickness?

Brief Answer:
Self limiting viral illness

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns but don't worry. This age is prone to self limiting viral infections which improve over a period of few days. They may present as poor appetite, lethargy, irritability, fever episodes, diarrhoea, cough and cold. They just need symptomatic treatment, good nutrition and comfort. It's common during teething episodes because of the baby's tendency to lick and bite on everything in their reach.

I would recommend you to take the following measures to help her out:
1. Give her acetaminophen syrup ( Paracetamol, Tylenol or Crocin) for fever spikes. You may repeat the same dose after every 6-8 hours if fever persists. You may give it also for teething troubles which make child cranky and irritable.
2. Give her Syp. Maxtra or T minic for cold if present instead of Flucold. Flucold has paracetamol which may cause overdose.
3. Offer her frequent feeds and oral fluids to prevent weakness and dehydration. You may give soft and easily digestible feeds such as soups, puried fruits and veggies, oats, lemonade, buttermilk, curd, etc. Even if she rejects, don't worry. If she prefers only breastfeeding, don't worry for the time being.
4. Avoid iron and calcium supplements for a week because they lead to gastritis and poor appetite.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
