Question: I am a 54 year old female who is menopausal and have been experiencing a lot of hair loss over the last 6 months. I am now noticing that my hair is thinning considerably and it is concerning me. Is this normal for my age. Is there something I can do to stop its progression.

Brief Answer:
Female pattern androgenetic alopecia; minoxidil & finasteride

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and i have understood your concern.

You seem to have female pattern androgenetic alopecia. It is characterized by thinning and decreased volume of hair mainly from the center i.e fron, mid and vertex of scalp.
Course is gradually progressive over the years

Minoxidil 2% solution and finasteride 1 mg tablet would help in preventing further progression.

Would any of the hormones I take contribute to this problem?

Brief Answer:
Thinning in androgenetic alopecia is essentially hormonal in nature

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thinning in androgenetic alopecia is essentially due to hormonal action of male Or androgenetic hormones on follicles.
Hormonal Replacement Therapy is beneficial rather than contributory.
However KETO-DHEAS, can have a this side effect of thinning and hair loss. Progest is a cream and I don't think it would be responsible for thinning.
