Question: Believe I have a bladder infection..strong burning sensation, very frequent urination. Had to put on adult diaper last night. Have a prescription(fairly new) for Cephalexin, 500 mg, which vet gave to my dog in August. Vet gave me approximately fourteen extra days of this antibiotic(taking two capsules per day). Can I take this capsules myself?

Brief Answer:
Dont self medicate, get a urine culture done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
PLease DONT self medicate.
Your symptoms are very strongly suggestive of a urinary tract infection.
The wrong antibiotic can worsen the infection and make it a resistant one.
It is imperative to have a urine culture test done.
That will tell you the bacteria causing infection and will guide regarding choice of antibiotic therapy.
Please get a urine routine microscopy and urine culture test done at the earliest.
Meanwhile drink lots of water and cranberry juice.
All the best
