Question: My husband age 74 has frequent cough with phlym, spitting up, worsening in morning. Frequent choking on "crumbs", he says, when eating. Even going to bed, lies down, and cough again. It has worsened over past 2 - 3 weeks. He smokes one pack of cigs daily. Has tried patches to quit in past, but then smokes also, and fails to quit. He thinks it is pollen in air. Frequent blows nose. Weight 164, lost 20 lbs over past two years. Could this be symptoms of COPD.

Brief Answer:
Yes this looks like COPD.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Yes it looks like COPD. Even if he has pollen and other allergies it's more likely COPD than asthma in view of his smoking. He will have to take treatment for the same for which he must consult a Pulmonologist.

He needs to undergo investigations esp. a chest X-ray to rule out anything else in view of his smoking history. The most important step in treatment is smoking cessation which he must do at the earliest.

Hope this answers your query.

Feel free to come back if you have any more queries.

Take care.

I have had plantar fascitis for 4 or more years and have had surgery on my right foot. I started taking bupropion because I had to force myself to go to work and I ask the Dr. to for an antidepressant the would not make me gain weight. I am now retired and my feet have gotten worse not better. What major withdrawal symptoms can I expect if i decide to quit taking buproprion? Once you have neuopathy can you reverse it if it is cause by a drug?

Problem: Erectile Dysfunction. I am 46-years old and on my 12th week of a smoking cessation program. I took Chantix the first two weeks and have been using Nicorette Lozenges on an as needed basis since. My wife also started the program with me, and both of us had been smokers for approximately 30-years. During the first four weeks, sex was no problem, and hadn't been a problem prior to quitting the cigarettes. Starting around the fifth week and up till now I can no longer maintain an erection during intercourse. The good news is that I still wake up with a pretty good erection sometimes but morning usually isn't the greatest time to wake the wife up for a romp in the hay. Everything I've read about ED and smoking runs contrary to what I am experiencing now. Could it be the Nicorrette? Why am I going through this and what can I do about it? Is it normal for someone to experience ED after they have quit smoking and how long does it last?

I stopped using the nicotine patch yesterday and decided to quit cold turkey but I am still having trouble sustaining a erection during sex. I never had trouble with this when I was a smoker.
