Suggest Treatment For Frequent UTI In A Heart Patient
Question: My mother gets infected by UTI very frequently, almost every 3 or months. She had the CABG in 2010 and almost since then is having this problem. She is not Diabetic and taking only heart medicines. Mostly in her culture report, she gets the e-coli bacteria.

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your mother has repeated episodes of UTI since couple of years .
In elderly females there is generalized atrophy of genital organs which also involves urethral passage which leads to narrowing of urethral passage called as Urethral stenosis
This narrowing of urethral passage causes incomplete emptying of bladder during micturition resulting into significant amount of urine to remain in bladder what is called as Post Void Residual urine .
This post void residual urine is the source of chronic infection (UTI).
Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with Post Void Residual urine volume
3) Endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) .
He may do calibration of urethra and dilate the urethra during the same sitting which should be followed by Clean Self Intermittent Catheterization (CSIC) every day at home for 2-3 months .This will help her to keep her urethral passage wide open to empty the bladder completely which will help to prevent getting UTI.
