Brief Answer:
Yes, the same bacteria can be the reason of your current symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Yes, the infection you have went through can be causing current symptoms. Please note that some of acute bacterial gastrointestinal infections can turn into chronic infection. It applies especially to infections taken from abroad travel. It is proven that such remaining chronic infection can lead to IBS and be the reason of anxiety.
Luckily there is great medicine which can treat eradicate such infection.
This medicine is called Rifaximine. Its a special antibiotic, which does not get absorbed from digestive tract (works only against bacteria located inside the intestines).

I suggest you to ask your doctor about this medicine. Along with Rifaximine you should take probiotic. During the treatment soft diet is a good idea.

If mentioned treatment wont help, stool test and stool culture test is a next step.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Weak immune system can be the reason of recurring infections.

Detailed Answer:
Some people are just prone to gastrointestinal infection. Weaker immune system is one of the factors. However we do not know many facts about how things work.
What we know for sure is that intestines are covered with good intestinal bacteria. This bacteria protect us against bad bacteria. If you do not have enough of good bacteria inside the intestines, you will be tend to get infection. So it is good to add probiotic to the diet. You may use it for long time and for sure when you do eat outside.
Weight gaining is a complicated problem. As long as you will have digestive tract issues, weight gain will be very hard. However it is worth to try dietitians consult.

Regards.
