Suggest Treatment For Fatigue, Lower Abdominal Pain, Gas And Fever

Question: I am female, 76 years old, breastfed my son, am very active, not fat. Yesterday afternoon, I felt fatigued and noticed a vague lower abdomen pain, which reminded me of the menstrual cramps I suffered earlier in my life, but over a larger area, across the lower abdomen. By evening, my abdomen was distended and uncomfortable to touch. It felt like I was going to have diarrhea, but I didn't, except for a tiny bit. I got gassy, developed a fever that went to 100, got chills, and went to bed, visiting the bathroom about 4 times overnight with gas, urination, otherwise sleeping soundly until 8 AM, then going back to bed right after morning coffee and sleeping unti 2:30PM, awaking with a slight headache, and a 98.8 fever. This never happened before--an isolated event. Could it have anything to do with raw chicken I bought yesterday on the last "use by" date? I fried it (crispy, I thought). At the end of day two, I feel much better, but still weak, and want to be in bed, doing nothing. Abdomen is not as bloated, but still a bit tender. between my navel and top of the pubic bone. Fever is 99. What are the possibilities?

Brief Answer:
Probably gastroenteritis (infection), mostly self healing

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

most likely you have a viral or bacterial (can be from the chicken) infection of the gastrointestinal tract (gastroenteritis). However, this will mostly heal itself in the next few days. Take in enough fluid, and light foods. If bloody stools, strong pain or high fever occur or if it persists more than a week please see your local doc.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
