Suggest Treatment For Extreme Fatigue Due To Working In Night Shift

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Sep 2017
Question: I can sleep anywhere from 7 hours to 10 hours and after being up for an hour or two I am totally exhausted. I get up, make myself a cup of hot tea, sit down to read the paper and usually cannot complete reading. I feel like I have taken sleeping pills (which l haven't) and feel very droggy and cannot complete reading the paper. I actually feel like l could just go into a coma (NEVER HAPPENED). If l go back to bed and sleep for another 2-3 hours l get up feeling better. This happens daily. This has been going on for quite some time. Up until a few months ago I worked a 3rd shift job just 2 days a week but l have since quit. Could it be that my body is still on this shift? I almost always feel like l have one foot in the grave in the mornings. Night time is no issue. I'm just so tired of being so tired (sleepy)! l need to wake up and enjoy life. Please help me! Thanks!!

Brief Answer:
Please get vitamin D 3 tested

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to assure you that effect of shift works takes merely one week to before biological clock sets in and your previous shift work is unlikely to be a cause for problem since you stopped working in shifts two weeks back.

Now considering the above problem I must inform you that there is ample evidence to suggest nutritional or metabolic factors. Among them deficiency of vitamin D3 is one of the most common cause. The second most likely cause could be disturbance in thyroid hormones.

I request you to discuss the possibility of low vitamin D3 and/or thyroid dysfunction with your doctor and get them tested from nearby laboratory. In case there is any abnormality it can be treated accordingly.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
