default
Posted on Mon, 3 Apr 2017
Question: My AST is 115 and ALT is 83. Bilirubin, albumin and ALP were all within normal range. I am 5' 1", 155 lbs. I am working hard to lose some weight and get more active. BP is around 126/ 84. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Possible fatty liver

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

These are moderately increased ALT and AST and if other findings are fine then this is most likely to be fatty liver disease. But this should also be confirmed with ultrasound scan of the abdomen.

This is treated with changing dietary habits, avoid alcohol(if at all consume), avoid fatty diets and hepatotoxic medications.

Also, regulate you body weight and exercise daily. Good to know that you're already working hard, keep it up. Medications such as Silymarin may help to improve the liver function.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wish you good health.
Regards

Thanks. I was taking a ZPack prior to the test and didn't know if that could have elevated these levels. I started taking milk thistle, turmeric and increasing activity. I plan to limit any alcohol intake to once per week if at all. With those changes how quickly would levels possibly return to within normal limits?

Yes,you should follow all these measures and liver enzymes should improve in 3-4 weeks so you should check your blood work after this time. Wish you good health.
