Suggest Treatment For During Child Birth While Treating A Posterior Hip Dislocation

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I had a motor vehicle accident a year ago, which caused a posterior hip dislocation, among other injuries. I got pregnant a few months later, and I wasn't able to finish my physical therapy. Now I'm 38 weeks and have been having my hip lock up and at times give out on me. It has been getting progressively worse as the pregnancy went on. I'm getting induced next Friday and have no idea how my hip is going to hold up during labor and child birth.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM. For successful labor it is important to have adequate pelvic ring diameters and if you didnt have fracture of sacrum, pubuc bone and pelvic ring with dislocation then posterior hip dislocation wont have significant effect on labor. It was expected that your problems with hip will worsen during pregnancy since ligaments stretches and joints become more flexible, but it wont affect child birth as I said,it can only be more painful. In your scenario, a cesarean section is a considerable option so ask your gyn about it, and I am sure it will be performed if something goes wrong. Wish you good health. Regards
