Question: I am 54 years old male weighing 81 Kg with 5 10 height. I am diabetic for last 12 years and till recently was taking Metformin SR 1 tab each before breakfast and Dinner. And the sugar was in the range of 120-150. For the past month I noticed that my sugar is in the range of 180-240 and consulted the Doctor. He changed my tablet to Glycomet GP1, 1 tablet each at breakfast and dinner. I have been taking the same for last 8 days but I do not find any change in the levels of sugar which is between 200-150. Kindly advise. I have no other medical complications apart from hypertension for which I am taking one tazloc tab per day.

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understood your concern very well.
It is very natural in the course of history of diabetes, where medicines tend to loose their efficacy after a prolonged use.
Your doctor has rightly started GLYCOMET GP 1 which has metformin along with 1 mg if glimmipride, because a new drug is always started in lower dose,so that your blood sugar levels don't fall drastically.
Since your blood sugar levels are still high,I would recommend you a higher dose of glimmipride 2 mg.
You can talk to your doctor and start taking GLYCOMET GP 2 twice a day.
The dose of anti diabetic medicine is to be titrated gradually and blood sugar test to be repeated again after 10-12 days to see the effect of medicine.
There is nothing to worry as your blood sugar would settle soon.
Apart from medication, you must also do regular aerobic exercises for 45 minutes a day and observe proper diet control for good sugar control.
There are plenty of good oral anti diabetics available which can keep a good control on your sugar levels for a reasonable period of time.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
