default
Posted on Mon, 20 Jun 2016
Question: I am 54 years old. I noticed that over the last 18 months my penis is bent and does not get fully erect. I am concerned that perhaps a vessel is damaged. I can still function ok, however the right side where the bent area is does not become as full and is constricted. Penis does not get to full length or width. Injury?

Brief Answer:
Peyronie's disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

What you are describing, a curvature in the penis that prevents normal erection, is called Peyronie's disease. This is usually caused by repeated trauma which results in development of fibrous tissue/scarring, which causes the bend.

Some times people have this bend but can get adequate erections to function (as is your case), and do not have pain (which I am not sure about in your situation). In these situations, a wait and see observation can be best. But in men who experience pain, or have erectile dysfunction to the degree that their penises can't function, there are some treatment options. Usually a small surgical procedure can help. This would require a consult with a urologist.

So - depending on how much it is bothering you, you may want to see a urologist to discuss what your options are.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
