Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I have some concerns about headaches that I had for 4 days in a row, then I had 2 days of nothing followed by 4 days of increasing dizziness ( I feel like I am drunk) and it is getting worse each day. My medical history is dvt and double pe in 2006, kidney disease since 2006, thyroid surgery ( left side removed), degenerative disc disease lumbar, major depression and PTSD. What could be causing these bouts of extreme dizziness?

Brief Answer:
Get an MRI scan of the brain.Need to rule out Metabolic encephalopathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

I understand your concern.

The headaches in your case are probably related to underlying past history of DVT and Double PE in 2006.

Since Dizziness is an accompanying factor in your case,I advise you to get an MRI scan of the brain.

One need to rule out stroke as well as metabolic encephalopathy changes since you have past history of kidney disease.

For this I advise you to have complete renal profile-Blood urea,Creatinine and Sr Electrolytes.

Further management is based on test results.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
