Questions for you to help me answer you better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Conjunctivitis is inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva of the eye and eye lid.

It is most commonly caused by infection, either bacterial or viral, but it can also be caused by non-infectious things such as some medications (oral), chemicals, or allergies.

Do you know which type you have? I can address your question more specifically if you know that. For example, did it come on with a cold (then it may be viral), or do you have allergies, or start taking a new medicine? Did you get an irritant in your eye before it started?

Also, how many days have you had it, and what are the eye drops you are taking (name)? Is there pain? Itching? Yellow goop?

More information to follow after I hear back.

it is keratoconjunctivitis sicca, not specified as Sjogren's. I was prescribed Alrex. it does feel like there's something in my eye. there's no yellow goop, just white strings that I get out quite a few times a day. not really painful but need to use eyedrops frequently because of irritation. thank you.

Thanks for clarifying XXXXXXX

My understanding of the drug Alrex is that it is a corticosteroid for seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, not for dry eyes. I am not sure I understand the rationale for using it here, unless there is also considerable inflammation. Usually eye lubricants are used instead.

This is a bit out of the league of family medicine. We do have some ophthalmologists that answer on this site. I suggest that you repost your question and in the first line write "FOR OPHTHALMOLOGIST ONLY". One will respond, most likely tonight. In your question, please make sure to rewrite that you have keratoconjunctivitis sick and are using Alrex, without help.
