Question: I am scheduled for a colonoscopy/endoscopy on Monday and I spent all day in bed today, with a general feeling of being unwell. Loose bowels and a bit of congestion, rare cough. I have severe anxiety and when i go though stress like this, i get sick. I have had three months of anticipatory anxiety over this and now that its almost over, im afraid the Dr. wont do it. Should i get a perscription for Amoxicillan from my GP tomorrow and try to fight it off in the three days that I have? Or do i do the prep and hope?

Brief Answer:
Amoxicilin antibiotic not indicated

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Majority of Respiratory tract infection like cough and cold are self limiting. They only require symptomatic treatment, antibiotics are generally not indicated. IIt should subside on its own.
Colonoscopy is a minor day care procedure and there is nothing to be worried about . For cough I would suggest you the following

1. Warm saline gargling : To a glass of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of common table salt. Gargle the throat with it thrice a day.
It will relieve the throat congestion

2. Ensure good intake of water : 2 to 3 liter a day

3. Adequate sleep

Do not worry the procedure is unlikely to be cancelled.

Wishingyou a very "Happy New year 2015 "
