Suggest Treatment For Chronic Migraine

Posted on Fri, 11 Nov 2016
Question: Sir I'm from Hubli XXXXXXX and suffering from migraine from past 6-7 years. Didn't know it was migraine until a family doctor told me 5 years back and since 5 years I'm continuously taking tablets and have consulted many doctors.

As you can see in the attachments I 1st consulted a family doctor and then the family doctor was unable to find a solution so he referred me to Dr.G.M.WALI who is a neurologist based in XXXXXXX And then it didn't work out I went for acupressure in XXXXXXX it self. While acupressure didn't work I went to Dr XXXXXXX who is a General medical doctor in Hubli. I was somewhat satisfied with the tablets and went to him for more than 1.5 years. And then he referred me to Dr XXXXXXX who is a neurologist in Hubli. and from last 1.5 years im going to him.

As I'am taking tablets on daily basis recommended by him, but i still get it 2-3 times in a week and doesn't go until I take "Sumatriptan" as "naproxin" doesn't work as painkiller though recommended by the Doctor.

I have noticed that i get head ache usually after breakfast or lunch and is usually because of digestion problem as i get to know that the food is still not being digested even after 4 hours.
I here by request you to help me out and check all the reports attached and advice me and help me getting rid of migraine permanently.

Please refer mail on October 13th 2016 on YYYY@YYYY for reports and current medications.

XXXX

Brief Answer:
Medical treatment is effective in about 60%

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back with reports.

The medicines for migraine (flunarizine, propranolol, divalproex and topiramate) are effective in about 60% of patients, and some of them have side effects.

If the medicines are not effective or have side effects, then, botox injection can be given, which is effective in 85-90% of cases, and moreover, there are no side effects.

Sir,
I have few questions :
1.How long is the treatment?
2.Will injections have to be repeated often?
3.If I go in for treatment what is the the total cost of the treatment?
4. I have to pay whole amount immediately or have to pay in parts?
5. If my Migraine doesn't cure even after the treatment then what next?
6. What is the guarantee that ill be completely cured from Migraine?
7. Is there any doctor in XXXXXXX who is specialized in BOTOX?

Brief Answer:
85-90% people benefit from botox

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back with seven more questions. My replies to those seven follow-up queries are below:

1. If you meant botox injection, it takes 15 minutes time.
2. Botox injection has effect for 3 months. It may have to be repeated after three months, if headaches return.
3. Botox injections cost about Rs 46,000/ and the doctor's fees is about Rs 4000/. So, the total cost is about 50,000/ rupees.
4. You need to pay the amount before buying any medicine, otherwise, most chemists would not issue the medicines.
5. The injection may be repeated after three months, as some people (10%) people need two courses of botox to get better.
6.0% guarantee of cure, as there is no cure for migraine. All medicines including botox only reduce the chances of getting migraine attacks, there is no medicine yet discovered that can cure migraine.
7. I have no knowledge of Bengaluru doctors.
