Suggest Treatment For Chronic Gastritis And Stomach Bloating Along With Constipation

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Dec 2014
Question: Hello doctor,
I have a case of chronic gastric, and stomach bloating issue along with constipation. This usually starts around 5 PM immaterial of whether I eat anything or not, and continues till I sleep. The gas I pass has a bad odour, and although I feel the gas in my stomach, it looks like it is stuck and will not pass. This gives me slight discomfort too.
I also suspect that due to gas I have constipation issues too. Being in the rest room for a long time does not help. Sometimes after I get up from the commode, I pass gas. But there is no pressure to pass stools.
I have altered my food habits and exercise a lot. Antacid gel does not help me. Is there any medicine I can use to alleviate my discomfort

Brief Answer:
Non Ulcer dyspepsia

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,

With the symptoms mentioned you might be having NUD (non ulcer dyspepsia) an extremely common digestive problem in middle age group.

You should stop or reduce consuming starchy food that are grown underground like garlic, onion, potato and other root vegetables. If you do not find any improvement next thing is to stop milk and products.

Your symptoms should improve with tablets like Tab Anzolact or Tab Unizyme. They have probiotics and charcoal which absorbs the gas produced and reduce the odor. You can take them twice a day. I believe they are available across table in the pharmacy. Since these did not help you earlier. You may keep them as alternative to Rifaximine. The above tablets should not be taken continously.

Rifaxime is given by Gastroenterologist.

Thank you

Please let me know how many days should I take Anzolact or Unizyme before which I should decide whether to replace with Rifaxime or contact you.

Brief Answer:
Two weeks

Detailed Answer:
I suggest you to use them for at least two weeks and above dietary modifications. If these do not help you can go to a gastroenterologist for Rifaximine prescription.

Basically your tablet should have probiotic, charcoal in it.
