Question: I have a burning pain in my right upper inner thigh that comes and goes through out the day. This same leg is difficult to lift or swing (like getting into the drivers seat of my car. Do you know what that might be? I am a 51 year old female and I do smoke about 8 cigarettes a day.

Brief Answer:
Most probably Meralgia Paresthetica.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First, there is need to clarify few aspects of your symptoms.

- The pain is felt inside your thigh or on the skin?

- Are there positions or activities that improve or worsen the pain?

- Any treatment tried?

In my opinion, most probable cause of your symptoms is Meralgia Paresthetica, a condition where the femoral nerve is compressed along its path.

Symptoms should relieve if you loose weight, wear loose pants, no belt at all, and initially use of NSAID drugs ( Ibuprofen eg.).

If symptoms continue after these measures, a neurological evaluation is needed and maybe imaging studies of the lumbar spine.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications.

Best regards.
