Suggest Treatment For Bowel Movement Immediately After Food Intake

Posted on Thu, 4 Dec 2014
Question: My son is 14 months old. He weighs 10 kgs. Since birth, he did potty right after his feed. We started feeding him outside food since he was 4 months old. By 6 months, he developed GERD.
After a lot of medication, he finally found relief in 3.5 ml Ranidom syrup twice a day. However, he has to avoid all acidic foods.
Also, he does potty after every little food he eats.
Lately, he does potty even after eating two small bites of wheat biscuits.
So we spoke to his doctor who prescribed 5ml Vizylac syrup? Is this safe?

Brief Answer:
Vizylac is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I n brief- vizylac is safe.
It is a probiotic which will alter the intestinal flora and reduce the frequency of bowel movements.
In case your child's symptoms persist after vizylac I would suggest a stool routine examination.

Hi Doctor,
I did give him Vizylac after two hours of breakfast. But he puked his entire breakfast 2 seconds later.
I assume it's because of the pineapple flavor in Vizylac which didn't go well with his GERD.
So, I called immediately who prescribed Nutrolin - B instead. After an hour of medicine in, I gave him a small piece of soaked wheat biscuit and he puked again.
What do I do now?
My family is asking me to avoid giving any food as he is puking out so much. I think it's because of his acidity that he is puking.
Also, his nappy rashes have worsened since last night even after applying B4 Nappi cream. It seems like the skin is tearing up on his potty area organs.
Doctor says to continue B4 Nappi Cream and if it gets worse, apply Fucidin cream.
I am terribly confused with his 8 days of rashes and 2 cream changes.
Besides, will he never cope up with his GERD?

Brief Answer:
continue nappi cream

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Nappy rash is a very uncomfortable thing for the child. I agree with your doctor that you should continue with the cream as advised.
Try giving the probiotic, nutrolin b or bifilac on empty stomach.
GERD does get better with time. Avoid chocolate and mint flavoured foods. Try semisolid and liquid foods. And yogurt or curds to his diet in case he isn't able to tolerate medications.

Hello Doctor,
I tried giving him the last dose of Nutrolin B last night. However, my son didn't seem to like his dinner and felt pukish all the while. He hardly ate anything... was hungry so kept on drinking water. At 5 in the morning, he started hungry... though I gave him only water.
At 8.30 am, I gave him his regular cup of milk with wheat biscuits. Since, he was hungry; he drank it in a jiffy (Otherwise, feeding him is a huge pain)
At 11.00 am, I gave him his morning dose of Nutrolin B and in next two minutes, he puked all his morning breakfast.
I called my family doctor and explained her the situation. She prescribed giving one shot of Enterogermina liquid. I gave him the shot via oral suspension at 12.00 and gave him half chapati soaked in dal. He did eat it as he was hungry.
But, then got liquid motions after that.
What should I do now???
He ate veg khichdi at 2.30 pm & he had loose mmotions again.
Should I continue with Enterogermina and if yes, what dosage?
Because Nutrolin B is out of question. He does not have his regular iron calcium supplements with the fear that I am giving him Nutrolin B or Vizylac which will make him puke.

Brief Answer:
keep hydrated

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

In case he is tolerating enterogermina continue it for 5 to 7 days.
You can stop nutrolin B and vizylac.
Wait for 48 hours for it to take effect. As long as he is active and taking you need not worry. Make sure he does not get dehydrated.
You will have to consult your doctor regarding the dose as healthcare magic does not allow me to give doses of prescription medicines.

Do get back in case you have further queries

Hello Doctor,
I gave enterogermina to my son yesterday & today. He ate all his food well yesterday & did potty after every food he ate. But they didn't seem like loose motions. But at night - 12.30 am, he started crying a lot for almost 20 minutes flat. Therefore, I gave him 0.4 ml of Flatuna drops. He felt better & slept.
Today morning, I continued his food routine alongwith Enterogermina ampules twice a day.
Since morning, he did potty after every food session. However, in the evening, after drinking his 50 ml wheat porridge, he has again got loose motions & uptil now has done it 3 times. Is it because of milk?
Ped prescribed topcef 50 - 5 ml twice a day. Will this suit my child?
My son's weight is now 9.4 kgs.
