Question: I have type 2 diabetes. Three days ago my eyesight became blurry. My opthomologist is on vacation, so I won't see him for three more days. I started taking Invokana approximately ten days ago - could that be the cause of the sudden loss of eyesight?

Brief Answer:
Present blood sugar level.

Detailed Answer:
My Dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
In bolana per se will not cause such blurring, but what is to be known is your present sugar level.Since for you it is a new drug, whethet it is controlling sugar properly, that disturbance may lead to retinal pathology to lead to blurry vision.
If there were no retinopathy previously, such sudden change can be due to oedema or hemorrhage. This can be diagnosed only after examination and treated accordingly.

Thank you, Dr. My test this morning was 131, although that was the lowest following several weeks of over 200. It's been going down gradually after taking the new medications and cutting back on the "comfort eating" I'd been doing while my husband was in the hospital/rehab. Life is getting a bit more normal, or was until this eyesight problem. This has me extremely concerned, as you can imagine, since reading is very difficult, even with glasses. I do have an excellent eye doctor, which is why I am willing to wait to see him until he returns from his vacation. It hasn't gotten any worse, just stays the same. I do have edema so your suggestion on that could be a possibility.
Sorry for the long answer to your reply. Just wanted to fill you in.
Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
Blood sugar control

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for getting back to me.
This is due to prolonged high sugar level that you are developing oedema or hemorrhage.
What you have to do is to control your diet to control your sugar. That is all you can do,rest is medication, which is for doctor to advise.
Have controlled physical exercises also,as they help reduce sugar level.
