Suggest Treatment For Balantidium Coli Infection

Question: hi my two year daughter is infected by Balantidium Coli as per her pathological
reports .She is prescribed AZITHRAL XL LIQ 200 and zoncin 50 ofloxacin oral solution.
But after first dosage at night she remain restless in whole night and demanded plenty of water .Is this common and the drugs prescribed is okay or not.

Hi, thanks for using health care magic.
Azithromycin and ofloxacin are the appropriate drugs for B. Coli infection. They can also safely be used in very young children.
Azithromycin may have side effects like intestinal colic and gastritis which may cause restlessness in children. But it is not a serious side effect. If the second dose also causes same effect then please consult your doctor regarding the change of prescription. Alternative drugs which can be used is Nitazoxanide.
