Brief Answer:
Proper ativan dose

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have an anxiety disorder and you are currently taking Zoloft and Ativan to help control your anxiety. A dose of Ativan 1mg three times a day is actually a moderate dose. Your doctor may increase the dose up to 6 mg per day. The proper dose for you will be a dose that help control your anxieties.

Ativan is also not recommend for long term use. When you finally get control of your situation and need to come off the medication then you will need to wean yourself. Sudden stopping of Ativan can cause rebound anxiety and withdrawal symptoms.

To help treat your anxiety and panic I recommend that you add a treatment called cognitive behavioral therapy. These are work books that help you cope with your anxiety and give you tools to help lessen the effects of your anxiety and depression if you have it. The combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy is very effective and much better together than medication alone. In my practice I recommend Dr. XXXXXXX Burns handbook called 'The Feel Good Handbook"

If you give the handbook a try and really apply the lessons you will notice a decrease in your anxiety. You just have to give it a serious try.

In summary
1. Anxiety treated with both Zoloft and Ativan is appropriate
2. 1 mg three times a day is a moderate dose of Ativan
3. Maximum dose of Ativan is 2mg three times a day
4. Wean from Ativan when the time comes
5. Start cognitive behavioral therapy with "The Feel Good Handbook"
6. See your doctor for regular visits and medication adjustments
