Suggest Treatment For Ankle Sprain

Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: I rolled my ankle on a curb two days ago. I have put ice on it for the past two days and keep it elevated as much as i can while at work - and elevate it at home. I am able to put weight on it and walk with a limp. I can move my toes with no pain and slowly rotate the foot with minimal pain. There is a lot of swelling on the outside of my ankle - near the bone and on the top of the foot. It is tender to touch but tolerable. Ibuprofen helps with the pain. I am wearing an ankle support on the ankle during the day. Pain seems to come and go - should I be worried

Brief Answer:
You are likely to be having ankle sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern.
You are most likely having ankle sprain.Treatment of it is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen. Icing and elevation is helpful in reducing swelling. You should protect the ankle by some kind of splint or support. I think you are doing most of treatment required. So no need to worry much it will gradually heal. However it is always better to get its x ray to exclude fracture.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Thank you - I was just concerned about the intermittent pain but as I said it is much better today with weight bearing and my limp is improved as well. Should I continue to elevate and ice it. I will wear the ankle support until it heals all the way.

Brief Answer:
Intermittent pains are common in such conditions

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back

Intermittent pains are common in injuries. Nothing to worry about. You can take analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. You should continue elevation and icing till swelling subsides. You should continue with ankle support till healing is complete.

Rest already discussed. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
