Brief Answer:
Kindly get investigated

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.

For alopecia aerata, you must have been given steroid injections probably. But it would not work in telogen effluvium.
First the cause should be ruled out. I will like to know your:
1) Hemoglobin levels
2) serum ferritin levels
3) Thyroid profile
4) Blood sugar levels

There are various treatment options available for accordingly.
Kindly get back to me with reply of above questions so that i can advise you accordingly.

This is my best advice for you with the available details, if you have any further query, please ask.

I am seeing my internist later this week and will obtain the info you requested. Will I be able to keep our discussion open for an extended period of time as it will take a bit of time for me to get back to you?

You have to close the discussion yourself. But there is a automatic system through which the discussion gets closed after few days automatically.
However, you always have an option to re open the discussion.
Good Luck.

What is serum ferritin? Can you tell me what you would be looking for with these 4 components(thyroid, ferritin, blood sug, Hemoglob)? Should I see an endocrinologist?

Answered by Dr. Anshul Varshney (18 hours later)
Brief Answer:
To look for associated and underlying causes

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome again.

These investigations are meant to look for the associated and underlying causes for your two unrelated hair loss.
!) Serum ferritin and hemoglobin to look for anaemia and iron deficiency anaemia.
2) Blood sugar to look for diabetes mellitus
3) thyroid to look for hyper/hypothyroidism.

Diabetes and Thyroid disorders are associated disorders to rule out autoimmune diseases. Anaemia may be the cause for hair fall.
These investigations will help in treatment of your hair fall.

You may need not to see endocrinologist as of now. If there is some abnormal reports, then you can consult your endocrinologist.

I hope i am able to solve your query.

Good luck.
