Brief Answer:
Continue taking

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

If you have already had allergic reaction in past then chances are there you will get again. If you are known allergic to nitrofurotoin group of drugs then get urine culture done and take the sensitive antibiotic. Dont take nitrofurotoin.

If you are not a known allergic then you continue taking the nitrofurantoin . If you get any symptoms like rashes , redness, breathing problem then consult your doctor. Usually everyone won't get allergic response.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.

ER dr said take 3 days worth based on labs, my general dr said 7days based on same labs. Why the difference?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepika Patil (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Duration of antibiotic depends on severity

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The duration for which antibiotics needs to be given depends upon the severity of the infection and also the preference of the doctor.

Usually the antibiotic duration are 3 , 5 , 7 and 14 days . It varies with the control of infection.

It is not fixed for particular infections. The decision is taken by doctor seeing your reports and also his own experience till now. So some prefer shorter course like 3 days.

For my patients I usually give nitrofurotoin for 7 days in case of UTI and see the response. I suggest you the same. Within 3 to 4 days your symptoms should start to reduce. Otherwise you need to change the antibiotic.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.

Is Cipro dangerous. Nitro making me throw up
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepika Patil (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Cipro is not dangerous

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry for late reply.

Cipro is not dangerous. But for UTI nitrofurotoin is good and effective drug.

You are having vomiting because of acidity caused by the drug. I suggest you to take PPI like pantoprozole 20 mins before breakfast and dinner and have the food and take the nitrofurotoin. This will prevent vomiting. Please note that this is a prescription drug.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.

So the blindneds , neuropathy, etc would occur during use not delayed onset?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepika Patil (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes those side effects will start when you are using the drug. It is unlikely that you have completed course and later you develop complications.

Usually permanent damage are seen for long term use of any drug not just a course of 5 or 7 days.
