Brief Answer:
Take him to the psychiatrist for deaddiction counselling

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your situation.

Any person who takes alcohol regularly and specifically to relieve the stress, he/she gets addicted to it. Gradually physical dependency on alcohol becomes severe and he can not quit the habit due to severe withdrawal features.

In alcohol withdrawal symptoms are tremors, sleep disturbance, anxiety, craving and low mood , decrease appetite occur. Severe withdrawal may lead to seizures/convulsion and delirium tremens which is serious condition.

So to quit the habit of alcohol, patient must be admitted in the hospital and under medical supervision treatment done.

If he is not ready to quit ,ask him to go to psychiatrist for at least shake of you and your family and his health. Psychiatrist/deaddiction specialist can counsel and motivate him for deaddiction.

Fatty liver is not serious condition. But yes continuous alcohol intake can worsen the situation.

Hope I have answered your query. I will be happy to answer more if other queries. Please revert back to me with details of his alcohol intake in terms of duration, frequency, quantity as well as hi ultrasound reports and liver function tests(sgpt, billirubin). And also narrate if he has any stress in life.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki
