Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux, Constant Burps And Weakness

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Aug 2016
Question: I started with hiccups Saturday afternoon. I thought it was side effects from blood pressure medicine. I am constantly burping and feel weak. I went to emergency and they're treating me for acid reflux but with no results. When I'm burping it's almost like losing my breath. Maybe you have a suggestion. Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

In most of cases, hiccups are caused by irritation from hyperacidity of stomach liquid during acid reflux.

If you have just started meds for high blood pressure, then, I believe they would have precipitated acid reflux which is clinically shown with hiccups.

Once hyperacidity is improved, hiccups will stop too.

If you started Prevacid and antacids since last Saturday, then, it will need at least 3 weeks to get the desired effect.

I believe the frequency and intensity of hiccups episodes is being diminished although still present.

If it will persist, then other neurological problems should get further checked.

Hope it was of help.
