Question: I was bitten on the lower lip about 30 mins ago by my Macaw which my lower lip was split but stopped bleeding after I iced it however under my lip looked deeper. I had this happen many years ago with another animal and the ER doctor would not suture it because it was a animal bite?

Brief Answer:
Not suturing does not seem relevant here.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Most often, humans get bitten by some sort of mammals. Since rabies is an otherwise lethal disease that can affect mammals, suturing is not done for the first 72 hours as a precautionary measure. But that should not be applicable to a Macaw. Please mention that to the ER doctor and I feel surely he would clinically correlate and comply.
