Question: My 6 year old was stung by a bee on her foot 2 days ago. The sting site looked fine, until this morning. Now half her foot is very swollen with red streaks throughout. Is thus anything to worry about?

Brief Answer:
needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Bee stings can be very painful and can lead to severe inflammation and swelling.
Ibuprofen and benadryl may not be enough sometimes.
If swelling is very large you need to get her evaluated to rule out impairment of blood circulation or compartment syndrome.
If so she may need more aggressive management including hospitalisation or injections.
It may also indicate infection and cellulitis which if confirmed on examination will need to be treated with antibiotics like cloxacillin.
Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
