Question: Thank you so much Dr. Rynne. At the end of the day, my right leg and ankle are very swollen. I sit a lot in front of a computer but this has probably only happened over the last year. I also have this huge vein that goes from the inside of my right thigh across my knee. So unsightly. I belong to Kaiser Health group here in XXXXXXX CA. I like to drink red wine and probably have a couple every night. Other than that, I think I am healthy and my last check up (6 months ago) was OK. Thank you for your guidance. Mary Lind

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

From what you are describing, your symptoms are related to deep vein thrombosis as long as there is a notable vein on your leg.

The swollen legs you notice in the evening are also related to DVT.

I highly recommend to consult with angiologist and to run Doppler ultrasound for further evaluation.

Meanwhile, I advise to :
- do frequent leg exercise while working for long periods in front of the computer. Walking and stretching exercises can also help.
- increase water intake
- wear tight stocking
- keep your feet raised as much as you can especially when sleeping
