Suggest Remedy For Shakiness And Numbness After Using Of Epinephrine

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: This morning I had a loop recorder inserted (my doctor is checking for AFib).v he did it under a local. He used lidocaine with epinephrine. Due to me having a bit of a raised chest wall on the left side he used extra numbing agent. My question is why use the epinephrine? Also, right after the procedure I had real bad shakiness from the epinephrine but an hour or so later it improved. But after taking a nap I still have some of the shakiness back and the numbness is still there, how long should this last?

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic.
In minor interventions that require local anesthesia,it is a common practice to add a vasoconstrictor agent such as Epinephrine.
Epinephrine acts by constricting the blood vessels of the skin at the area of Lidocaine injections. In this way the anesthetic drug is absorbed slowly by blood vessels and this prolongs the effect and decrease the systemic effects of the drug.
General effects of Lidocaine in body,in local anesthesia are considered side effects because the aim is have effects only in the interested area.

The duration of the numbness depends on the dosage used and since epinephrine can prolong the effect ,it may take from 6 hours to one day.
You don't need to worry.Give it some more time and the numbness will clear off gradually. The back shakiness feeling most likely are due to muscle twitching due to epinephrine. This are normal effects of local anesthesia.
You don't need to worry.

Hope it helps.
