Question: 21 yr old normally healthy daughter seems to have food poisoning. she is out of town camping and has called me with severe vomiting and diereaha . 12 hours now. she woke up this morning with blurred vision and tingly arms and legs that feel like they have XXXXXXX horse craps. her boyfriend can drive her home, but that is 3 1/2 hours. she is in a small town with not a great medical facility.....can she make the drive, or do we need to get her to a doctor? is there anything that can be done there ?

Brief Answer:
Yes, drink as much water as possible and can drive home!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this food poisoning. The best approach is to drink as much fluid as possible. She can make the drive home and be sure that she has enough fluids in the car. All should be normal.

I hope this helps. I wish her well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thanks for your help. She got home safe. I gave her approx 1/4 water every 15-30 minutes for about 8 hours. Let her sleep thru night. She ate very small portions of applesauce. This morning she finally urinated. She has been drinking water all day, a little soup, toast , a little baked potato. She is weak, heart rate will race occasionally. Bad headache so I gave her one Tylenol. She has to work tomorrow at 6 am. Should I get her blood drawn to check for botulisum or is she on the mend even if slow? Any lingering issues I should watch for ?

Brief Answer:
Observe only!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

There is need to get any blood work or seek further medical attention. Recovery would be gradual and be spontaneous. All you need is to put an eye and only seek further help if something else comes up.

I wish her well.
