Suggest Remedy For Rash On The Arm And Fluid Filled Blisters

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: I have a nasty rash on my left arm only that started about 3 days ago and has gotten progressively worse. it is red and swollen, hot and very itchy. it's also developing little red fluid filled blisters. It is only on my forarm. (I'm sending a picture). my doctor hasn't seen it but after texting her a photo this afternoon, she said it looks like contact dermatitis and she prescribed a steroid cream, Triamcinolone Acetonide. the cream is not doing anything at all for the itching which is driving me crazy. To my knowledge, ive not come in contact with anything or using any new products. I dont normally have a sensitivity to cosmetics or products. do you have any idea what this would be and what can I do to alleviate the itching.

You may take an OTC Oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine for symptomatic relief from itching.

-Is it painful too ??

Sorry, my phone has not been cooperating. I've uploaded some photos although I'm not sure it show up well in the photos. Thanks!

No pain really, just this horrible itch that seems to be getting worse. The itch actually started before the rash. It's getting progressively worse. The blisters are getting bigger and look like they are going to start weeping/draining any time.

Brief Answer:
Acute eczematous dermatitis; Steroid+antibiotic cream; Oral antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thank you. I have reviewed the Images.

This looks like an acute eczematous dermatitis.

I would suggest a potent topical steroid (triamcinolone acetonide is mid potent; clobetasol propionate would work better) preferably in combination with a topical antibiotic e.g clobetasol propionate 0.05%+fusidic acid 1% cream Or something similar to that. You can inquire about this from your doctor.

I also suggest an Oral antihistamine e.g either cetrizine Or loratadine for symptomatic relief from itching.

Since this is an acute eczematous eruption with blisters and may weep and ooze. Therefore I also suggest you to add an Oral antibiotic for prophylaxis of secondary bacterial infection of raw skin.

My choice would be either amoxycillin or cloxacillin or cephalexin for a week.

These are prescription oral medications and therefore I suggest that you talk to your doctor for the needful.

Brief Answer:
Dryness is a factor

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Underlying severe dryness of skin might have initiated it.

As our skin ages it loses its water retentive capacity and therefore easily prone to eczematous dermatitis, specially in cold and dry weather in winters.

Once this condition resolves you must use a moisturizer regularly for your skin dryness.
