Suggest Remedy For Pain On Tail Bone

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: My son has a pain inside, not the tailbone, but near. X-rays are clear. Docs say it's a strained ligament. My son, who is 15, has a difficult time sitting for any length of time and says it's the standing up after sitting that is most painful. Doc says we just have to wait it out. Any ideas of how long this may take or if there's another answer? We are planning to take a vacation in 3 weeks and I don't think he can manage the long flight.

Brief Answer:
Complete rest for 3 days, anti-inflammatory medicines, if needed, an MRI

Detailed Answer:
hi

I would like to have a history-

What is the duration of pain, when was he completely alright?
was there any fall or injury?

If it is of recent onset and no history of injury, then may be lower back ligamentous strain or sprain, more so , since x rays are clear.

Alternatively, if after many days of medicines, physical therapy have not helped, an MRI of lower back and pelvis may be required.

This age is unusual to give pain unless there has been some over stretch of ligament, maybe the child has hurt while activity and doesn't remember the twist or jerk sustained.

I would suggest that he have rest completely for 3 days, apart from toilet and be given anti-inflammatory medicine and local muscle relaxant applications.Wait and watch, if with this rest , symptoms lessen then strain of ligament may be the confirmed reason.

I suggest MRI pelvis , since sacro-iliac joint strain is a possibility as his typical symptom of rising from sitting positon gives pain-this may be due to rotatory movement pressure on SI joints

Best wishes
