default
Posted on Tue, 2 Dec 2014
Question: I had shoulder surgery one month ago, the last of five operations,ie one op and 4 washouts all starting on July 4 2014. I had infection ,but this is now clear and blood reading is very low at .75, however I have had increasing pain and soreness in the last 7 days, could this just be scar tissue etc, I have no temperature and I am eating ok, just a lot of pain. Im taking 6 Tramadol daily and wondered if I could take 3 diclofenac also, which I have had before, to help with inflammation.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to fibrosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The gradually increasing pain in your shoulder can be due to inflammation or due to fibrosis at the site of surgical scar. Infections cause a bad fibrosis to form causing a persistent pain and stiffness at the site.
For pain relief you can do a hot fomentation and take additional diclofenac to reduce the inflammation. Physiotherapy exercises like TENS can also help in reducing the inflammation.
Provide complete rest and avoid overhead activities. In case the pain is gradually increasing then do consult your surgeon and go for further investigations like MRI scan to find out the exact cause.
I hope this answers your query.
